Ellis Island series

Photogravure, intaglio prints.

When I visited the Ellis Island Hospital in October 2018, it was a deeply moving experience.

Engraved in the walls and landscape are traces of events that took place, and people who had their destinies decided there. The empty buildings bear witness to the immigrants’ life and death, their hopes for a better future, and of the hospitals determination to help.

Cultivating our collective memory seems even more important during the corona pandemic lockdown and has motivated me to start processing the material gathered. I’m still working on the Ellis Island series.
